Will the breathalyzers be still mandatory in french cars in 2013? According to our information, the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Manuel Valls, should call the National Road Safety (NCRP) to assess the relevance of this mechanism intended to allow drivers to self-test before driving.
If the NCRP believes that this equipment is not really useful, Manuel Valls could simply cancel this action. The Secretary of State for the Home Department had announced in early October postponement to March 1st of the verbalize for failing to have breathalyser in the car, “given the difficulties of supply.” Due to the shortage of materials, the price of rare breathalyzers for sale has soared in recent months, sometimes from € 1 to € 5!
The NF mark is mandatory in order to use such kind of breathanalyzer.
The impact is quite significant for manufacturers for which the investment in order to obtain such certificate is high.
